When Should the Intermediate Rod Be Replaced?
1. If the surface of the Intermediate Rod is scratched, scored, or pitted — for example, if it becomes scoured or scored, which can allow contaminants to enter the Power End assembly.
2. If the connection between the Intermediate Rod and the Crosshead becomes loose, or if there is any gap between the rod flange and the face of the crosshead — according to the manual, there must be no gap between the rod flange and the crosshead face.
3. If the seals around the Intermediate Rod or its sealing assembly are worn or damaged. The manual states that “any damaged or worn seals and related components” must be replaced.
4. If the pump shows signs such as excessive vibration, mud or fluid entering the Power End, or reduced performance — these may indicate a faulty Intermediate Rod. (Although the manual does not specify a defined service life, these are clear warning signs.)
5. If the Intermediate Rod develops cracks or breaks due to stress or improper assembly, it must be replaced immediately.
