Pickup Drill Pipe from the Rack
The pipe is lifted using the catline or pipe elevators from the pipe rack to the rig floor.
Align the Pipe with Rotary Table Opening
Floorhands guide the bottom end of the pipe into the center of the rotary table (called the rotary bushing or master bushing).
Stab into the Pipe Below
The lower end of the new pipe is stabbed (inserted) into the tool joint of the last pipe in the hole.
Make Up Connection
The two pipe segments are screwed together (made up) using tongs or an iron roughneck.
Lower Through Rotary Table
Once connected, the driller lowers the joined drill pipe string through the rotary table using the drawworks and traveling block.
Repeat the Process
Another joint of pipe is brought up, and the process repeats.
