What Is Three-phase Separator

In oil and gas processing, one of the most important pieces of equipment is the 3-phase separator. Its role is simple but critical: to efficiently separate the well stream into gas, oil, and produced water.

How does it work?
🔹 The mixed production fluid enters the separator through an inlet diverter, where the initial separation begins.
🔹 Gas, being the lightest phase, rises to the top and passes through a mist extractor before leaving the vessel.
🔹 Oil settles in the middle layer and is discharged through the oil outlet under level control.
🔹 Water, the heaviest phase, collects at the bottom and is removed through the water outlet using interface level control.
