ESP Failure – Broken Shaft

Recently faced an ESP shutdown due to a broken pump shaft. This type of failure stops production instantly and often points to deeper issues such as:
-Bearing wear or seizure causing shaft fatigue
-Excessive vibration from imbalance, sand, or gas locking
-Abrasive or corrosive fluid damage
-Torsional overload from pump blockage

Key lessons:
-Monitor motor amps, vibration, and performance trends closely
-Stop the motor immediately if failure is suspected and record all data
-Conduct a detailed teardown to identify the root cause
-Prevent by improving solids/gas handling, maintaining clean motor oil, and ensuring proper pump design & assembly

Every failure is an opportunity to strengthen reliability and reduce downtime.
