High Pressure Gas At A Wellhead After Completion

That’s one of those moments every field team remembers.
If the wellhead starts “breathing” gas unexpectedly, it usually means:
• Gas migration
• A packer or tubing leak
• Sustained casing pressure
Why we should care:
• Gas can escalate to an uncontrolled release
• High pressure stresses equipment
• One spark turns this into a big safety issue

On the environment side, uncontrolled gas means methane and VOCs in the air. Even flaring still adds CO₂ and soot.
How teams handle it:
• Secure the area
• Monitor all pressures closely
• Bleed gas in a controlled way
• Do a full integrity check before moving on

Now your turn:
Have you faced high-pressure gas releases?
What helped your team get through it?
