The crosshead liners are bolted into the main frame. Special sealing washers are used under the heads of the bottom capscrews to seal and prevent oil leakage.
Install the liners in the frame without shims, and tighten securely. Use micrometers and measure the inside diameter between the upper and lower liners at each crosshead position. Subtract the outside diameter of the respective crosshead from the inside diameter of the liners. Install shims under each lower liner equal to one-half the difference in Ineasured diameters at each crosshead position. Tighten the liner securely and measure the inside … diameter between the two liners. Subtract the diameter of the crosshead from this new inside diameter to obtain the clearance. The correct clearance between the top of the crosshead and upper liner is between .010″ to .020″
for 7-P-50, 8-P-80, 9-P-100, 10-P-130, 12-P-160 and 14-P-220.
When the worn clearance exceeds .030″, add shims under the lower liner until the correct clearance is obtained.
FINAL CLEARANCE CHECK – Always make a final check of the clearance with the crosshead in the pump.
Use a long feeler gauge and check the clearance in several places. Mark the crossheads as to position
to insure proper clearance after final assembly.
