As we know, the purpose of the Stripper Elastomer (Rubber/Insert) is to provide a seal around the Coiled Tubing and prevent well pressure from leaking to the surface.
The important point is that selecting the Stripper Elastomer material involves a balance between:
- Sealing Performance
- Wear Resistance
- Chemical Resistance
- Temperature Resistances.
Eg:
- Nitrile (Butadiene rubber):
A good choice for normal operating conditions and oil service. - Viton (Fluoro elastomer):
Suitable when temperatures and chemical exposure are more severe. - EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer):
Suitable when water or steam is the primary concern, rather than hydrocarbons. - Urethane:
Suitable when wear and friction are the main challenges. - AFLAS:
Highly suitable for H₂S or sour service and severe chemical and high-temperature conditions.
